I contacted Fred at PC Audio Labs who suggested I try a few things that might work but of course I'm doing things most users haven't ever attempted. So much for the 'quality' support at ADK computers when there is no potential for a sale. At the very least he could have explained why my nephews idea would not work. He just said it wouldn't work and I need to 'upgrade.' I explained the reason for staying with Unisyn but he didn't seem very interested. I contacted ADK computers via live chat, and the person didn't even take the time to read my message posted above. In theory, it seems my nephews idea might work, but who knows? They abandoned Unisyn for PC around 2000 making it obsolete. And no, it's not possible to port the data over to Midiquest.

I would have no desire either other than 10 years ago I spent weeks tagging thousands of patches for old synthesizers in Unisyn. I get the feel I'm blazing a new trail, and obviously one very few would have any desire for. I don't think I need any 'performance' when all I'm doing is using Unisyn to edit synthesizers. So do you know of any external USB/MIDI devices supported by both Win 7 and Win 98 that will give you the performance you need?' Like I said, this would be sweet to get it to work but it is a crap shoot with special hardware so if it does not cost anything or is minimal cost then is worth going for it but if it requires buying some hardware for this and we are not sure it will work then it gets a bit dicey. Does that make sense or did I lose you? Concerns about this setup is how well USB is supported by the Virtual Machine for Win98 and if the USB/MIDI device is supported by Win 98. This way Windows 7, the Virtual Machine and Windows 98 all will use the USB port to pass the data back and forth (I know this will work so long as the Win98 environment supports that USB device) while the program in Win 98 will go through the virtualized USB port to talk to the external MIDI port and thus device. I think the best chance we have for a MIDI port in a virtual machine is to use an external USB to MIDI device. I am afraid this will be true no matter what soundcard you get and with this being a special external A/D converter it may not even recognize it. My guess is the soundcard will virtualize but if it does it will come across as a standard generic soundcard and as such lose any special features it has such as the MIDI port. I think were we will have problems is in the virtualization of the MIDI port to Windows 98.

I'm also switching from a Gina 24 to something similar.maybe a Delta 1010. I'm doing this because I still use MOTU Unisyn and it needs just 1 midi in/out port. I would like to eliminate my Windows 98 computer and run Windows 98 virtual under Windows 7.

Hey.could anyone offer suggestions on how to set up Windows 98 inside Windows 7, and have MOTU Unisyn operate in Windows 98 with a functioning and physical MIDI in/out port on the back of my Windows 7 PC?
